Interesting QSO with QRP station in Pittsburg - video
I did something last night that I haven't done in ages. I put out a CQ on HF. I was running just 100 watts into the MA5B pointing north west for the States on 18 Mhz SSB and managed to run a bit of a pile-up. During the course of this pile-up, I picked out KB3RHR, Craig in Pittsburg, who was running just 5 watts from a Flex radio. He had a reasonably strong signal, 57 to 59 with QSB. Craig captured our QSO on video in his shack just after setting up his Flex 1500 radio. You can see the video below:

Top of the morning to your Anthony, it's sure is nice to see the bands are starting to come alive again. I am not able to see the video here. It seems to not be loading.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a YouTube embed Mike. Should work. Direct link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCXEyn-gH90
DeleteWas great to catch you on 17M Tony. I am more of a QRO than a QRP guy, but wanted to test the Flex to see if I could make it, and was so excited when you pulled me from the pile. It will be very interesting to see where I go with this now. Initial feeling is , " I wish I had the 3000 and the 100 watts to drive my pa. " I guess we should start with baby steps. I have been reduced to an OCF wire as I lost my HF tower last winter ( which I should be working on instead of playing radio !!! ) Great looking page BTW. I will keep you posted as to the progress / status of my findings. 73 de KB3RHR
ReplyDeleteCraig, it was nice to hear such a good signal with 5 watts! I have not done much HF for the past few months (been busy writing a book) but it was a great pleasure last night to work so many stations across the Atlantic with my modest antenna. I have an Acom 1000 here but it doesn't get much use - only when I need it !
DeleteHello Anthony, the video is great. I'm really surprised by the clear reception. It's looking quit futuristic as well. 73, Bas
ReplyDeleteBas, I've been thinking for a while that if I am able to upgrade my main rig at some stage, what the hell can I get that will beat the FT1000MP with all the filters? Of course, there's plenty of slightly better rigs, but more expensive. SDR seems like a good way to go, especially in a high noise environment which my QTH is definitely located in.
DeleteThanks Anthony I got home and all worked great and it looked very good....kinda cool to hear how you sound at the other end.
