Dabbling in a bit of JT65 - 10w heard in Japan
Right now, I'm dabbling in a bit of low-power JT65. I was putting out a CQ using JT65-HF (version 1.0.9.3) on 20 metres and, as you can see from PSKreporter.info above, my puny signal was heard in Japan!! Right now, I'm in QSO with W2ZEN (Locator FN30) and he gave me a SNR report of -21. I don't do JT65 very often. In fact, I've only used it a few times, but it is absolutely fascinating. Hopefully I'll get some nice DX tonight. I can't imagine I will make too many contacts though - it takes a full six minutes to complete a QSO properly with this mode!!!

This is a low-signal mode, 10W is usually enough to work the world, I worked over 100 countries with 3-10W and wire antennas. You might want to try the newer WSJT-X software, the interface is better and it also works with the JT-9 mode. Also, when you work these modes you can skip the RRR part to make the QSO shorter, from the signal report go straight to 73.

Razvan,
DeleteThank you for the suggestion. I did use WSJT-X on my old laptop. I must install it on the new computer and give it a try!! Fascinating mode. A bit slow, but fascinating!! Well done on working over 100 countries!!

I was having the same idea last evening. Though used 10 times less power. Band of choice was 10m. A great mode when propagation is over in a few years. 73, Bas
ReplyDeleteBas, I must try 15m and 10m and see how I get on!!!
